Erosion has removed the soil down to the plough layer
Department | Small Watershed Hydrology & Erosion

Background | Soil gets eroded by wind and water and finally is transported into surface waters. This pollutes our surface waters and impairs soil functions.

Aims | Therefore, we aim at protecting our soils from erosion to prevent pollution of our surface waters and sustain soil functions. We also work on reduction of surface runoff due to extreme events.

Main Topics | We measure soil erosion in watersheds and develop and improve models for the prediction of soil erosion. We do research on the relationship between soil erosion and surface runoff and their influence on surface waters. Based on this knowledge we develop and test measures for the protection of surface water.
