In Austria we partly carry the responsibility to provide future generations with ground- and surface waters in sufficient quantity and quality. Our soils protect the groundwater and therefore act as filter to preserve water against pollutants. Therefore soil protection means water protection.

Our aim is to maintain and improve soil as a media of filtering and storing water. We call this "Land | Hydrology | Management", because we try to manage the hydrological cycle in order to reach that goal.

Doing research we develop methods and measures to decrease the pollution of ground and surface waters and soil erosion. In the area of national and international water management we advice and support policy makers. We offer support for the implementation of the European water framework directive for the topic of groundwater.
