Talwegerosion on arable land by water inflow from grassland
Erosion
Soil erosion diminishes functioning of soil and water and is seen as the greatest threat to soil on a global basis. At present we focus our activities in soil erosion research at:

Rainfall Simulation  |  experiments allow to measure runoff and soil loss on small plots. They can be performed under heavily controlled conditions.

Plot Experiments  |  enable to measure runoff and soil loss up to field sized areas. Control of influencing  factors is only partially possible.

Watersheds  | are hydrologically closed units which we monitor in order to measure water flow and sediment production at scale levels which are relevant for regional water, sediment and nutrient management.

Modelling | The data gathered at different scale levels  are  used to  develop improve and apply erosion and transport models.
